The Hodder in summer is a real delight, although when drought strikes it can be very hard work indeed.

Please give this video a minute to load. The quality isn't brilliant but you will get the general idea.

This small video shows that brownies can be had when the river is quite low on the dry fly during the day. I cannot recall exactly what pattern this one took on the day in question but it was most likely to have been a pale watery dressing. These obliging little flies, along with small black terrestrial patterns like beetles, spiders and ants prove to be successful when the fish become finicky and fail to take larger olives like the BWO etc. An old tree had previously fallen into the far side of the stream and provided an interesting run, which was holding a few feeding trout.

I was rather lucky to land this particular fish as although it was not a huge specimen (around one pound) it was pretty lively for its size......
