The Yellow May Dun
It is said that this beautiful fly is disliked by the fish. However, I believe that this claim may be rather controversial. One of the main issues with this species is that it does not seem to hatch in huge numbers like say the BWO so the fish don't actually get much chance to hit it. One of these days I intend to spend a session devoted to taking a few trout or grayling on a pattern of this species.
One trout that I actually took on the River Lune on such a dressing was unfortunately foul- hooked in the dorsal thus proving nothing.
Nevertheless here's a nice shot of a YMD taken by my son Kyle on the River Hodder in the merry month of May.
